Sheikh Mohammed Kamil Mohammed, Ashanti Regional Chief Imam of the Al-sunna Waljamaa, a Muslim sect in Kumasi, has expressed worry and concern about cases of harassment and intimidation of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) supporters by the National Democratic Congress (NDC) supporters after the recent elections as reported by the media.
He has therefore appealed to the jubilant supporters to celebrate their victory in peace and not to regard their opponents as enemies.
Sheikh Mohammed, who was speaking in an interview with the Ghana News Agency in Kumasi on Monday, stated that, "the NDC supporters should see that whatever is done to NPP supporters over their victory can also result in retaliation if the NPP comes into power in future".
He suggested to President John Evans Atta Mills to adopt effective health policies to enhance the health status of Ghanaians to enable them to contribute positively towards national development.
Sheikh Mohammed also advised him as an educationist to promote education at all levels in the country by providing the necessary infrastructure facilities, adequate text books, teaching aids and incentive packages to motivate teachers to work harder.
The Chief Imam noted that the backbone of the economy is agriculture and called on the President to effect sound economic policies to ensure higher productivity in the sector to feed the nation as well as improving the foreign exchange earnings for the country.
He appealed to him to strive and reduce taxes on food imported into the country, especially rice to ensure food security for the nation.
