Two new opinion polls show Iceland's coalition government of the Social Democrat and the Left- Green enjoys the support from majority of respondents, according to reports reaching here from Reykjavik Friday.
A new opinion poll, undertaken by Capacent Gallup for the daily Morgunbladid and the national broadcaster RUV, indicates that majority of respondents would vote either of the two coalition parties, the Social Democrats or the Left-Greens.
The Social Democrats has become the largest political party in Iceland with support of 30 percent and the Left-Green second with 26.2 percent, while the Independence Party, which traditionally is the largest one, currently ranks third with 24.4 percent.
In another opinion poll, conducted recently by the daily Frettabladid, the coalition has also won the support from most respondents. A significant difference between the two polls is that the Independence Party ranks second with support of 29.1 percent of respondents.
The current coalition government was sworn in on Feb. 1 after the previous coalition government of the Independence Party and the Social Democrats was forced to resign because of the economic crisis.
