The chiefs and people of the Sakote Traditional Area in the Talensi-Naddam District have appealed to President John Atta Mill to appoint a citizen of the area to be the District Chief Executive (DCE).
The Paramount Chief of the Sakote Traditional Area, Naba Sigri Bewong, said this when the new Regional Minister, Mr. Mark Woyongo, paid a courtesy call on him.
The district is made up of two ethnic groups, the Talensis in the Tongo area the Nabdams in the Nangodi and Sakote areas.
The Paramount Chief said since the inception of the district, there was no time a person from the Nabdam area was appointed as the DCE or Presiding Member of the Assembly.
He said that was unfair and appealed to the government to consider appointing a person from the area to become the DCE this time.
Naba Bewong commended the government for assigning a contractor to work on the only dam in the area and expressed his people's appreciation to the government.
The chief said there was peace among his people and assured the Regional Minister that they would give him the maximum cooperation to steer the affairs of the region.
The Regional Minister commended the Chief and his people for maintaining peace in the area and urged them to continue to nurture it to bring about development.
Mr Woyongo said the NDC government was committed to the development of the region and that was why it had the intention of establishing the Sheanut Board and Savannah Accelerated Development Project (SADA).
Mr. Wayongo said the NDC government would not abandon the good projects started by the New Patriotic Party (NPP) but would continue with them to reduce poverty in the area.
He said without peace the desire of the government to bridge the north-south development gap would not be achieved.
Mr. Woyongo also visited the Paramount Chief of the Tongo Traditional Area, Tong-Rana, Naba Sabaalug Nemalteng, and conveyed a message of thanks from the government to the people of the area.
He said the area, which has tourist sites, would be given attention by developing the sites and creating a website for it to attract more investors.
Mr Woyongo assured the people that agriculture would be mechanized and farm inputs including fertilizers subsidized.
He thanked the people for giving the party their support during the election.
