U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton met with Mutassim Gadhafi, a son of Libyan leader Moammar Gadhafi, here on Tuesday, saying that the U.S. authorities "deeply value the relationship between the United States and Libya."
"We have many opportunities to deepen and broaden our cooperation and I am very much looking forward to building on this relationship," Clinton said.
The chief U.S. diplomat and Mutassim Gadhafi, who is Libya's national security adviser, discussed bilateral security cooperation. Their meeting was productive, State Department spokesman Robert Wood told reporters.
Seif al-Islam Gadhafi, another son of the Libyan leader, visited Washington in November 2008.
Since renouncing terrorism and weapons of mass destruction in 2003, Libya is no longer on the U.S. State Department's list of "state sponsors of terrorism." Washington and Tripoli normalized their relations in June 2004.
