Members of the Bibiani-Anhwiaso-Bekwai District Assembly have approved Mr Moses Kofi Armah, a 26-year-old chemist, as the District chief Executive (DCE).
He polled 43 out of 44 votes cast.
The assembly also elected Mr Agyapong Okumawuo, a 53-year-old teacher, as the presiding member. His contender, Mr James Acheampong, stepped down for him as he failed to get two-thirds in an earlier voting.
In his acceptance speech Mr Armah expressed gratitude to President John Atta Mills and the assembly members for the confidence reposed in him.
"I see the position as a challenge and will unite the people for accelerated development of the district.
The new presiding member promised to unite members of the assembly no matter their political affiliation.
