Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva and Colombian President Alvaro Uribe were at the top of popularity ranking of Latin American Presidents, local press Tuesday cited the company Consulta Mitofsky as saying.
Lula got 70 percent of vote, while Uribe reached 69 percent, followed by Mexican President Felipe Calderon with 68 percent and Salvadorian President Antonio Saca with 54.6 percent.
Also with a high percentage (between 55 and 65 percent) were Ecuadorian President Rafael Correa with 60 percent, Paraguayan President Fernando Lugo with 60 percent, Chilean President Michelle Bachelet with 59 percent and Bolivian President Evo Morales with 58 percent.
With medium percentage of approval (between 40 to 55 percent) were Uruguay's President Tabare Vasquez, 53 percent, Costa Rica's Oscar Arias, 49 percent, Panama's Martin Torrijos, 48 percent, Guatemala's Alvaro Colom, 45 percent.
The presidents with comparatively low evaluation (between 35 to 40 percent) were Leonel Fernandez from Dominican Republic, 38 percent, Daniel Ortega from Nicaragua, 38 percent and Alan Garcia from Peru, 34 percent.
The presidents with the "lowest evaluation (less than 30 percent) were Argentina's Cristina Fernandez, 29 percent, and Honduras' Manuel Zelaya 25 percent.
The information was gathered in 17 Latin American countries from the opinion polls published in local media.
These results were published in the magazine "America Economia" with offices in Chile and the Unite States. The results do not include presidents without evaluation register: Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez and Cuban Leader Raul Castro.
According to Consulta Mitofksy, these data "must be interpreted only as measures of the perception the people have about their presidents in each country as well as their administrations."
"These kind of evaluations are a way to measure the work done by each one of the presidents and it can not proof the efficiency of their achievements during their administrations," the company said.
Consulta Mitofksy is a Mexican company that makes public opinion research and is specialized on market researches.
