Members of Wa East District
Assembly on Tuesday confirmed Mr Aminu Salifu as Wa East
District Chief Executive.
He polled 19 votes with six against, representing 76 per cent of
the votes cast at a special meeting at Funsi.
Mr Salifu thanked the members and asked for their cooperation
and support to help manage affairs of the district.
He said the development needs and challenges of the district
were enormous and appealed to other stakeholders to collaborate
with the members to help address them.
Mr Salifu called for peace and unity among the different ethnic
and political groups in the district to enable government bring
development to the area for the benefit of the people.
Mr Mahmud Khalid, Upper West Regional Minister, said Wa
East District was the most deprived district in the country.
He said for the past five years since it was created; it still had no
communication network system, no electricity, no potable water and
no senior high school to cater for students from the district.
Mr Khalid said the district had some of the deplorable roads in
the Region and the only health centre lacked qualified staff to
provide quality health care services to the people.
He appealed to the assembly members to cooperate with Mr
Salifu to spearhead the development agenda of the district.
Mr Khalid gave the assurance that NDC Government would not
discriminate in the distribution of development projects and the
district would get its fair share of the national cake.
