A total of 50 spoilt ballots papers were recorded in two rounds of voting by the Kwaebibirem District Assembly Members for the election of a Presiding Member at Kade on Tuesday.
In round one, 26 spoilt ballots were recorded and 24 in the second round by the 78-member assembly in a fruitless exercise which is perhaps historic.
The action by the assembly members who spoilt their ballots papers was viewed by others as intentional and a deliberate act of sabotage.
Some of the assembly members expressed disappointment at the turn of events, with some saying ultimately that the two contestants, Mr Kwaku Ofori Abrokwah, an administrator, and Miss Christiana Bediako, a teacher, should ultimately be made to step down.
In the first round, Mr Abrokwah polled 33 votes as against 18 by Miss Bediako, with 26 spoilt ballots.
In the second round, Mr Abrokwah polled 34 votes with Miss Bediako polling 19 votes with 24 spoilt ballots being recorded.
Interestingly on some of the spoilt ballot papers were two numbers representing both contestants, while others wrote "No" with others also drawing skeletons on their ballot papers.
The election was supervised by the District Electoral Officer, Mr Gabriel Dei.
