The unilateral action to establish an independent Palestine state can be detrimental, French Foreign Ministry spokesman Bernard Valero said on Monday at a press briefing.
"A unilateral step ... can be detrimental for the establishment of a state which we said we wish to see," Valero said while asked whether France
supports Palestinians' recent proposal to request UN recognition of an independent Palestine state.
France has always supported to create a "viable, independent and democratic" Palestine state, which can live peacefully near Israel "with
sure and recognized borders on the base of UN resolution," the spokesman stressed.
Valero said France is in the process of communicating with European members and the United States over the issue.
The chief Palestinian negotiator, Saeb Erekat, announced on Sunday in a statement that the Palestinian National Authority (PNA) is seeking UN
recognition of an independent Palestinian state with East Jerusalem as its capital.
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu warned that Israel would take corresponding "unilateral" measures if the PNA announces the Palestine state.
