Tunisia has outperformed its North African neighbors in transparency by promoting good governance and
eliminating corruption, figures released by corruption watchdog Transparency International showed on Tuesday.
Tunisia ranked 65 out of 180 countries in the 2009 Corruption Perception Index (CPI) following its efforts to boost public sector transparency, according to the data.
Tunisia's CPI was put at 4.2, a score allowing the country to head North Africa region in terms of managing domestic and public sectors in cutting corruption.
Morocco ranked 89, while its oil producers neighbors Algeria and Libya ranked 111 and 130 respectively.
New Zealand tops the index this year and Somalia was the poorest performing country.
Tunisia works hard to enhance good governance and improve investment climate to lure more foreign investment, which is crucial to create jobs.
