Chinese Vice President Xi Jinping's official visit to Myanmar, which ended on Sunday, contributes a great deal to mutual friendship existing between Myanmar and China and bilateral cooperation in various sectors, hailed Tuesday's official newspaper New Light of Myanmar.
Myanmar and China have a common border stretching more than 2, 000 km and "the peoples of the two countries have mutual respect and deep
friendship as they have been dealing with each other like brothers for a long time," said the editorial titled "Towards deeper friendship and closer cooperation."
"With reciprocal goodwill visits by the leaders of the two nations, bilateral relations and cooperation are thriving," it also said.
At the invitation of Vice Senior-General Maung Aye, Vice- Chairman of the State Peace and Development Council (SPDC), Xi paid the visit to Myanmar from last Saturday to Sunday.
During the visit, Myanmar SPDC Chairman Senior-General Than Shwe met with Xi in Nay Pyi Taw who held discussions with Vice Senior-General Maung Aye on matters related to further improvement of bilateral relations and
cooperation in agriculture, transport, energy, electricity and communications sectors.
The two leaders also exchanged views on matters to which the two countries should pay serious attention, on regional and international
cooperation and on the two countries' stand on climate change.
During the visit, the two countries signed a total of 16 documents including five agreements on development of trade, economy, transport
infrastructures, technological cooperation and purchase of machinery; seven financial agreements, three agreements on hydroelectric power; and one agreement on energy sector and oil and natural gas pipeline.
Myanmar was the third leg of Xi's four-nation tour to Asia which also covers Japan, South Korea and Cambodia.
