Qualcomm has introduced a new reference design for the wireless headphones market. Based on its TrueWireless technology, the platform eliminates the need for wires entirely – both between the media source and stereo headset, as well as between left and right earbuds.
The new product targets the growing market for wireless headphones as well as the emerging 'hearables' market, of small wearable devices with audio features. The Qualcomm TrueWireless Stereo Headset Reference Design is based on the CSRA63120 audio ROM device which supports wire-free stereo Bluetooth headsets. It is available now to OEMs and manufacturers.
Qualcomm also announced that it's added active noise cancelling (ANC) technology to its CSR8675 product platform, a Bluetooth audio system-on-chip (SoC). The new feature reduces the complexity and cost of adding active noise cancelling to headphones by eliminating the need for a separate ANC chip, while also addressing demand for smaller devices, Qualcomm said. The CSR8675 is a fully integrated Flash platform with embedded 120Mhz 24-bit DSP and also supports Qualcomm aptX and aptX HD audio technologies.
