Smartphones are set to account for over half of the world’s mobile phone users for the first time in 2017, according to data from eMarketer released to coincide with the tenth anniversary of Apple’s launch of the iPhone. In 2017 there will be 2.3 billion smartphone users worldwide, a yearly growth of 10.4 percent, with smartphones representing some 53.1 percent of the mobile phone total. The share is expected to reach more than 60 percent by 2020, said the report.
China will account for 25.2 percent of global smartphone users in 2017, followed by India with 11.3 percent and the US with 9.3 percent, added eMarketer.
