Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Medical Laboratory Science, Healthcare Administration, Business Administration, or a related field; Master's degree preferred.
At least 7-10 years of progressive leadership experience in healthcare management, with a focus on laboratory operations and administration.
Strong understanding of laboratory testing methodologies, quality assurance principles, and regulatory requirements, particularly within the Ghanaian healthcare context.
Demonstrated ability to develop and implement strategic plans, manage budgets, and drive organizational change.
Excellent interpersonal, communication, and team-building skills, with a track record of effectively leading and motivating multidisciplinary teams.
Proficiency in data analysis, financial management, and technology integration to support operational excellence and decision-making.

Description
- Technical/Operations duties
- Strategic Leadership:
- Develop and execute strategic plans to enhance the laboratory's capabilities, expand service offerings, and drive business growth.
- Collaborate with senior management and key stakeholders to align laboratory goals with the overall objectives of the healthcare organization.
- Operational Management:
- Oversee all aspects of laboratory operations, including specimen processing, testing procedures, and result reporting, to ensure efficiency and accuracy.
- Implement quality assurance measures and regulatory compliance protocols to maintain the highest standards of quality and safety.
- Optimize workflow processes and resource allocation to maximize productivity and minimize turnaround times.
- Financial Management:
- Develop and manage the laboratory budget, including revenue projections, expense forecasts, and cost-control measures.
- Identify opportunities for revenue growth and cost savings through strategic initiatives and operational improvements.
- Monitor financial performance metrics and key performance indicators (KPIs) to track progress and inform decision-making.
- Human Resource Management:
- Recruit, train, and supervise laboratory staff, ensuring adequate staffing levels and competency in performing laboratory procedures.
- Foster a culture of teamwork, professionalism, and continuous learning to promote employee engagement and retention.
- Conduct performance evaluations, provide constructive feedback, and support staff development and career progression.
- Quality Assurance and Regulatory Compliance:
- Establish and enforce quality control procedures and standards to ensure the accuracy, reliability, and integrity of laboratory testing.
- Ensure compliance with all relevant regulatory requirements, accreditation standards, and quality management systems.
- Lead efforts to obtain and maintain accreditation from relevant accrediting bodies, such as the Ghana Standards Authority (GSA) and the Medical Laboratory Council.
- Supervisory duties
- Staff Recruitment and Training:
- Oversee the recruitment, hiring, and onboarding process for new laboratory personnel, ensuring alignment with organizational needs and objectives.
- Develop and implement training programs to enhance the skills and competencies of laboratory staff, including ongoing education and professional development opportunities.
- Workflow Management:
- Monitor and manage laboratory workflow to ensure optimal efficiency, productivity, and resource utilization.
- Establish protocols and procedures for sample processing, testing, and result reporting, and ensure adherence to established protocols by all staff members.
- Performance Management:
- Conduct regular performance evaluations and provide constructive feedback to employees to support their growth and development.
- Address performance issues and disciplinary matters in accordance with organizational policies and procedures, including coaching, counseling, and corrective action as necessary.
- Scheduling and Staffing:
- Develop and maintain staffing schedules to ensure adequate coverage for all shifts and testing requirements.
- Coordinate with other departments and stakeholders to address staffing needs, fluctuations in workload, and special projects or initiatives.
- Quality Assurance and Compliance:
- Monitor laboratory operations to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements, accreditation standards, and quality assurance protocols.
- Conduct audits and inspections to assess compliance with internal policies and external regulations, and implement corrective actions as needed.
