The Presiding Member of the Twifo-Hemang-Lower-Denkyira District Assembly, Mr Michael Adorvlo, on Thursday re-echoed calls on assembly members to help educate the people on the forthcoming national population and housing census.
He stressed that it was important that they sensitize the people on the need for them to provide accurate and reliable data during the exercise because this will enable the government to make informed decisions to facilitate the rapid development of the district.
The presiding member who made the remarks at an assembly meeting at Twifo Praso noted that when this was done, it will help ensure a successful exercise for the benefit of the whole country.
He commended the government for advancing plans to hook a number of communities to the national grid and called on the assembly to educate people on the efficient use of electricity since some of the fire outbreaks in recent times were attributed its misuse.
Mr. Adorvlo appealed to the assembly to consider giving a befitting ex-gratia award to assembly members for their dedicated services to the district under the better Ghana Agenda.
Mr. Foster Joseph Andoh, District Chief Executive(DCE) for the area, said the only new project which was allowed under the guidelines for the last year's supplementary budget was the rehabilitation of the DCE's official residence while the rest of the common fund received for the first quarter, would be used for on-going projects and other related ones.
He said there were also several on-going development projects being funded by the district's development partners such as the small town rural water and sanitation project at Mfuom, Jukwa-Krobo and Wawase which had been completed.
Mr. Andoh said the Morkwa water project was also nearing completion while an European Union (EU) funded water project at Hemang was in progress.
He said World Vision, Ghana, has sunk ten boreholes in the district and constructed five KVIP latrines while the government has earmarked twelve boreholes for twelve communities.
He said under community based rural development project, construction of three unit classroom block has been completed while others will soon be completed.
On roads, the DCE said currently, work on the spot improvement on the road from Cape Coast to Twifo Praso has commenced while routine maintenance in the form of grading on the Twifo Praso-Fosu has been completed.
Mr. Andoh told members of the house that: "We have a bright future in this district" but it will require their co-operation and hard work for the district to improve upon the lot of its people.
