Deputy Superintendent of Police Rebecca Nyamah, Tema Co-ordinator of the Domestic Violence and Victim Support Unit (DOVVSU), on Thursday appealed to parents not to extend their marital problems to their children.
She said parents must take up their responsibilities of providing care for their children, irrespective of whatever problems existed between them and their spouses.
She gave the advice on Thursday in an interview with the Ghana News Agency in Tema.
DSP Nyamah expressed regret that child neglect by parents would jeopardize the future of the country because they would grow up to become social miscreants.
She said cases pertaining to non-maintenance of children and family accounted for the chunk of the cases recorded by the Unit in the first quarter of this year.
DSP Nyamah said 507 non-maintenance of family cases were reported at the Unit between January and March.
She appealed to the public to inform DOVVSU of any child.
