Kuukua Dennis, an Accra- based cashier has appeared before the Asamankese Circuit Court, charged with stealing a two week-old baby.
Her accomplice whose name was only given as Anita and who is on the run is being sought by the police.
Kuukua pleaded not guilty and was granted a GH C5000 bail with two sureties to re-appear on March 4.
Police Inspector D. T. Nartey, prosecuting, told the court that Kuukua befriended Anita who hailed from Ekoso near Asamankese.
He said Anita on a visit to her hometown invited Kuukua to go with her.
The prosecutor said at Ekoso, the two friends frequented a particular house where they took care of a two week-old baby girl, while the mother, Yaa Comfort, went about her household duties.
On October 20, last year, they went to the baby's house, took the baby as they used to do only to vanish with her.
The prosecutor said Kuukua was later arrested and in the course of investigation, her 78-year-old mother brought the missing baby and explained that she was in the house when Anita sent the baby there.
He said the woman explained that she had produced the child following news that Kuukua had been arrested.
The baby has since been re-united with her mother.
