Zoomlion Ghana Limited would carry out a quarterly spraying exercise for one year in the New Juaben Municipality in Koforidua in the Eastern Region.
The spraying exercise would cover 40 communities including Asokore, Effiduase, Old Estate, Galloway, Mile 50, Adaa Zongo, Korley Nkwqanta, Jumapo, Suhyen, Oyoko, Akwadum and Anlo Town.
Mr Johannes Danso Obeng, Eastern Regional Vector Control Officer for ZoomLion Ghana Limited, briefing the Ghana News Agency after the maiden exercise at Koforidua, on Tuesday, said frequent spraying of mosquitoes and other flies would minimize the spread of malaria and other diseases.
The exercise was organized by ZoomLion in collaboration with the Ministry of Local Government and Rural Development and the Ghana Health Services.
Mr Obeng said already 44 public latrines and refuse dumps had been sprayed to ensure environmental sanitation.
He said the exercise would be extended to other parts of the region to ensure environmental cleanliness and prevent deaths which normally occurred through malaria and other related diseases.
Mr Gordon Donu, Environmental Health Officer of New Juabeng Municipality, called on the people to clear weeds from around their houses and bury empty cans which serve as breeding areas for mosquitoes and other flies.
Mr Emmanuel Opoku Gyamfi, Assembly member for Srodae-Nyerede Electoral Area commended ZoomLion for their efforts to maintain clean environmental sanitation in the Municipality.
