Ousman Mohammed, 30, a butcher, has been remanded into prison custody by a Hohoe Circuit court for possessing leaves suspected to be Indian hemp, popularly called "Wee".
Mohammed would re-appear on September 15, this year, where his plea would be taken.
Police Chief Inspector, Samuel Gbedemah, prosecuting, told the Court presided over by Mr Edward Apenkwa that, the Hohoe Divisional Police Task Force on patrol duties had a tip-off that Mohammed allegedly stole a calf and had tied it to a tree along the Hohoe-Likpe highway.
He said the informant led the Police to the spot and saw Mohammed in the vicinity and arrested him.
Chief Inspector Gbedemah said a search on the suspect led to the discovery of quantities of dried leaves suspected to be Wee stashed in a black polythene bag and a pair of scissors.
He said the suspect was apprehended with the exhibits and charged for the offence.
Meanwhile, Police investigations are underway while awaiting results of forensic testing of the suspected leaves.
