Some homes were evacuated as some 40 tanker cars from a derailed freight train burned for most of Saturday in western Canada's Saskatchewan province, reports reaching here said.
The accident took place in the morning near the border of Manitoba province. There were no injuries to either the train crew or local
residents.
The mayor of the local community told reporters the burning cars were carrying liquefied propane gas, but there was no immediate danger as the low wind means the fire could not go near the town.
However six homes located in a two kilometer radius around the crash site were evacuated.
Transport Canada has also imposed a no-fly zone in the area, with aircraft ordered to stay four kilometers from the site.
