The Moderator of the General Assembly of the Evangelical Presbyterian (EP) Church, Ghana, Rt Rev. Dr Lt Col Bliss Divine Agbeko (retd), has urged public office holders and persons serving in other leadership positions to guard against corrupt practices in their respective workplaces.
“As leaders, you are expected to lead the fight against corruption, uphold virtues of truth, integrity, righteousness and high ethical and moral standards in the sectors you serve, and not compromise negativity or any form of exploitation,” he said.
Rt Rev. Dr Lt Col Agbeko, who is also the Chairman of the Christian Council of Ghana, was speaking at Adidome in the Central Tongu District in the Volta Region during a commissioning service held for 13 newly trained pastors of the Evangelical Presbyterian Church, Ghana.
The commissioned pastors, who included two females, were graduates of the Trinity Theological Seminary, Legon.
Present were the General-Secretary of the Christian Council of Ghana, Rev. Dr Cyril Fayose; President of the Trinity Theological Seminary, Rev. Prof. Fred Mawusi Amevenku; the Special Advisor to the Speaker of Parliament and former Member of Parliament for Ho-Central, Kofi Attoh; the Clergy, as well as traditional leaders.
The moderator underscored the need for leaders shepherding congregations and institutions of Christian faith to denounce wrongdoings that were destroying the moral fibre and ecosystem of the nation.
He advised the pastors to uphold virtues of humility, truthfulness, faithfulness and diligence in the discharge of their stewardship responsibilities, while ensuring that their preaching inspires the desired transformation of repentance and good moral standards.
“Go and preach Christ, preach the truth and righteousness, serve as worthy disciples of Christ by acting faithfully to the word you preach, ensuring that your message produces the expected fruitful results; don’t make only verbal proclamations,” the moderator added.
