The Member of Parliament for Chiana-Paga, Alamzy Billa Nikyema, has criticised the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP), questioning the party’s ability to regain political power in the future.
Speaking on the floor of Parliament on Wednesday March 4, the MP argued that the NPP’s current leadership and flagbearer lack the political strength needed to win public support, insisting that even student-level elections would be difficult for the party to secure.
According to him, it is unrealistic for members of the party to confidently speak about winning the 2028 general elections when, in his view, the party is struggling to maintain credibility among ordinary citizens.
Mr. Nikyema stated that the NPP failed Ghanaians during its time in government and subjected citizens to severe economic hardship. He maintained that public dissatisfaction with the party remains high, making its political comeback uncertain.
He further claimed that the party would face serious challenges convincing voters at the grassroots level, arguing that support for the NPP has significantly declined across the country.
“These people failed us with audacity, they failed us with audacity and the most bizarre part is that any time they are making contributions they will tell us that when we win power 2028. Mr. Speaker, my question is with which party and with which candidate?
“Mr. Speaker, your current party, and your current candidate, you cannot even use the party and your current candidate to win SRC elections,” Mr. Nikyema said.
