He said, sport was an avenue for job creation and development and government alone cannot see to its development and promotion in the country, hence the need for private sector support.

Professor Twumasi, who made this known at the third edition of the Asante Akyem Marathon in Agogo in the Ashanti Region noted that, sports must be seen as an avenue to create jobs, development and infrastructure and this would require the help of all Ghanaians.

In an interview with GNA Sports, Professor Twumasi said, he was happy to be part of the Asante Akyem marathon for the first time, but more importantly the idea of developing talents for the nation.

“I am very happy today, because like I have always said, sports development is not the sole responsibility of government, but also through private individuals like Mr. Kwadwo Baah Agyemang – the founder Asante Akyem Marathon.

“It being in the third year proves that this marathon has come to stay, considering the budding talents that have come to display their worth here.

“I must congratulate Mr. Baah Agyemang on his aim of helping government use sports to develop and nurture talents for the growth of the country and I am hoping to see that it goes beyond Agogo and get it to other parts of the country to unearth more talents for Ghana”.

Professor Twumasi noted that, as Ghana prepares for upcoming games in Morocco and Tokyo 2020, it was very important the country paid attention to some of these athletes, who have the potential of raising the flag of Ghana high on the international stage.

Over three hundred athletes took part in this year’s edition, with each athlete getting a certificate of participation and other times as the overall winner took home laptop, study materials and products from sponsors.
