Thousands of Ghanaians both old and young continue to troop to the Independence Square, Accra, to witness the swearing in ceremony of President John Dramani Mahama and Vice President Paa Kwesi Amisah-Arthur.
Some of them, clad in NDC colours sung the 'Ede bee Keke" slogan composed for the President during the electioneering campaign, while others skillfully played antics with their motorbikes as a way of celebrating the event.
Security personnel detailed at the Independence Square had difficult time controlling the crowd.
In an interview with the Ghana News Agency (GNA), Madam Afua Ghartey, aged 80, who hails from the Central Region, said she was attending the swearing-in ceremony because she voted for President Mahama.
She said before the elections were held on December 7, she held 21 days dry fasting for President Mahama to emerge victorious and she was happy that God had answered her prayers.
"Today is the happiest day in my life, and that is why I have come all the way from Effutu in the Central Region to witness the swearing-in ceremony of President Mahama", Madam Ghartey said.
She urged President Mahama to keep his promise of providing quality education, good roads, potable water, and electricity to the rural areas.
Mr Prosper Ballans, who hails from Bawku in the Upper East Region, told the GNA that he arrived in Accra about three days ago to witness the swearing-in ceremony.
He said though he was a private business man , he had decided to take a break to witness the swearing-in ceremony of the President.
Mr Ballans wished President Mahama the best of luck and good health as he took office as the leader of the nation.
