Multitudes of Ghanaians have converged at the Independence Square on Monday morning to witness the inaugural ceremony Ghana's fourth President under the Fourth Republic.
Ghana News Agency (GNA) observed that Ghanaians from all walks of life expressed joy to be part of the inauguration of President-elect John Dramani Mahama and Vice President-elect Paa Kwesi Bekoe Amissah-Arthur.
In an interaction with the GNA, Mr Amadu Mohammed, a resident of Nima in Accra said it was his first time of witnessing such a ceremony and he was glad to be part of history.
Mr Samuel Quayson, a vendor in Accra said he was highly elated to be part of the ceremony and expressed his profound gratitude to Ghanaians for giving Mr Mahama the mandate to govern.
Ms Aisha Wonder from Tamale said she was happy to be there and she wished President Mahama well in his tenure.
Mr Godson Azavor of Tongu Central said it was a fantastic day and called on all Ghanaians to rally behind the new President.
Mr Francis Tekpli, a National Service personnel with the Volta River Authority said the ceremony was a constitutional requirement and all must be happy to be part of it.
It was a colourful ceremony which kept people drumming and dancing at the Independence Square.
Traders were doing brisk business in National Democratic Congress paraphernalia, while others were selling food on the pavements.
Some international tourists were there in their numbers to catch a glimpse of the ceremony.
