THE management of the Consolidated Bank Ghana (CBG) Ltd last Monday donated over 700 assorted reading materials to the Gbi-Kpeme Basic School to boost academic performance at Hohoe in the Volta Region.
The assorted reading materials authored by Ghanaians are to educate the schoolchildren on “the rich customs and traditions left to us by our ancestors”.
The programme was through the “Formative Learning with CBG” initiative to promote learning and literacy in schools.
Presenting the items valued at thousands of cedis, the Managing Director of CBG Ltd, Naomi Kwetey, noted the importance of the cultivation and enhancement of literacy in the children to assist them in focusing on what truly matters.
She was accompanied by the Deputy Managing Director of CBG, Sheila Azuntaba, and Head of Corporate Communications, CBG, Mavis Frimpong.
The habit of reading, she said, planted the seeds of knowledge that would go to expand their outlook and bring them nearer to their dreams and future.
Commending the teachers for their roles in guiding and moulding the young minds, Naomi Kwetey urged them to encourage them to love reading.
To the children, he said, “Read the books, ask questions since this is the greatest gift you can acquire”.
The Headmistress of Gbi-Kpeme Basic School, Gloria Opare, expressed their gratitude for the books that would go a long way to transform the lives of the children.
She described the donation as a surprise response and delivery to the request they made to CBG Ltd during their speech and prize-giving day celebration that was held in May last year.
The School Improvement Support Officer in charge of the Hohoe East Circuit, Prince James Gafah, thanked the bank for the efforts to transform the lives of the children.
This, he said, would empower the children to attend school with confidence knowing that their basic needs were being met.
