The Ghana Statistical Service has announced that the Monthly Indicator of Economic Growth (MIEG) for July 2025 is 4.5 per cent, down from 8.3 per cent in July 2024. The figure indicates an expansion in economic activities in July 2025, though lower than growth in July 2024.
This was announced by Dr Alhassan Iddrisu, the Government Statistician, on Thursday in Accra at a press briefing. He said the services sector recorded an increase of 6.4 per cent in July 2025, up from 4.5 per cent in July 2024. This indicates continued strong performance in the services sector. The sector, he stated, contributed 58.4 per cent of the 4.5 per cent growth in the MIEG.
Mr Iddrisu said the agriculture sector performance improved by 8.0 per cent in July 2025, compared to 2.4 per cent in July of 2024. This indicates a faster pace of expansion in the agriculture sector compared to growth in July 2024. The sector also contributed 37.1 per cent of the 4.5 per cent growth in the MIEG. The industry performance moderated, recording a MIEG of 0.1 per cent in July 2025 compared to 17.7 per cent in July 2024.
That, he stressed, was a marginal expansion in the industry sector, but much lower when compared to the same period last year. The sector, however, contributed 0.9 per cent of the 4.5 per cent growth in the MIEG. The MIEG is a leading high-frequency economic statistic which provides monthly information on economic performance.
It is also a high-frequency indicator of Gross Domestic Product growth and tracks monthly changes in economic activity and the aggregate index for Ghana’s economy.
