VETERAN gospel music duo, Tagoe Sisters and Reverend Yawson are headline acts for this year’s Western Gospel Music Awards, which takes place at Word of Life Assemblies of God Church in Anaji, Takoradi, on November 10, 2024.
The Western Gospel Awards, now in its fourth year honours gospel artistes from the Western Region who have dedicated their music talents to spreading the message of Christ.
This year’s event promises to be a memorable evening of soul-lifting performances. While the Tagoe Sisters and Rev. Yawson offer timeless melodies, contemporary gospel acts including Team Eternity, Kofi Karikari, SK Frimpong, Lady Joy, Ruger Quarm, Lordable Holm and Shedrack Tronu will give the night a modern touch.
Three new categories such as Western Urban Gospel Artiste of the Year, Western Gospel Music Video of the Year, and Western Best Blogger of the Year have been introduced.
In all, awards in about 24 categories will be given out. They include Western Gospel Artiste of the Year, Western Gospel Collaboration of the Year, Western Female Vocalist of the Year, and Western Best Gospel Artiste – Diaspora.
Other notable categories are Western Sound Engineer of the Year and Western New Gospel Artiste of the Year.
Lordina The Soprano leads with an impressive eight nominations, SK Frimpong and Kofi Karikari follow closely, with seven nods each while Efua Black earned six nominations.
In a conversation with Graphic Showbiz, the lead consultant for Prolific GH, organisers of the event, Maxwell Bills, said the mission of the awards ceremony is to build a massive social and spiritual movement for all people across the country and beyond.
“By using music as a tool, we aim at producing personal conversions, fostering communal cohesion, advocating for social justice, and inspiring cultural renewal in the Western and Western North Regions, and the world at large,” he said.
