The President of the Association for Mathematics
Teachers of Ghana, Ms Adwoa Nkrumah, has observed that mathematics is the easiest subject to be taught and learned.
She said, however, that that would depend on how the teacher handles the subject.
Ms Nkrumah was addressing teachers, who had completed a refresher course on the teaching of Mathematics, English, Phonetics and Ghanaian Language on Wednesday in Tamale.
She said the teaching of the subject needed patience and practicalities adding it also must be made interesting and loving for students to be able to understand without any difficulty.
The refresher course was organized by Childreach International, a Non Governmental Organisation for 70 volunteer teachers, who had been recruited and paid monthly by the NGO to teach 30 communities of the Savelugu/Nanton district.
Ms Adwoa Nkrumah, who was a facilitator for the subject at the training, urged students to learn and love mathematics and develop much interest for the subject repeating that "Mathematics is never a difficult subject".
She said she attended a deprived school but due to the interest she developed for the subject, she found the subject comparatively easier to the other subjects.
Mr Frederick Sarfo said the training programme for the volunteer teachers was to make quality education accessible to children within its operational areas adding that the ten-day training had been well delivered by the facilitators.
He said the participants were taken through skills in teaching children to read both English and Dagbani through the use of phonics and other tried and tested methods.
Mr Sarfo said the daunting challenge facing the country's educational sector and its dream of meeting the Millennium Development Goals could only be achieved through the collective and committed partnerships between all stakeholders.
He said organized groups in society and communities must be encouraged and empowered to play active and leading roles in educating their children.
