Parents of a Muslim girl (student) have alleged she has been given Transfer Certificate (TC) by authorities of a local Christian school here for insisting on wearing head scarf, prompting the district administration to order an inquiry into it.
The 10th standard student Nabala was recently given TC by the English-medium school, run by Believers' Church at Mannanchery on the town
outskirts, stating that wearing head scarf amounted to violation of the school's dress code, the complaint said.
District Collector P. Venugopal asked Revenue Divisional Officer to inquire into the case and submit a report soon, District Administration
sources said.
However, denying that Nabala had been forced to leave, the school authorities said her parents themselves had sought TC.
According to the school management, at a meeting of parents teachers association last year it was agreed that the students would adhere to the dress code.
Nabala's father, Nazeer Musliar, Imam of a local mosque, claimed the school authorities did not heed his plea that his daughter be allowed to
continue in the school till she completed the 10th standard.
The school is run by Believers Church, a Kerala-based independent Christian group headed by evangelist Bishop K. P. Yohannan.
