The number of people displaced from the Sawla-Tuna-Kalba District of the Savannah Region into the Bono Region has risen sharply from 880 to 2,317, according to the National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO) in the region.
The displaced persons have been relocated across four Municipal and District Assemblies: Wenchi, Tain, Dormaa East, and Jaman North.
“In Wenchi, we have recorded 2,041, in Tain, we have recorded 262, in Dormaa East, we have also recorded 12, and then, in Jaman North, we have recorded two. Total IDPs are 2,317,” the Bono Regional NADMO Director, Fati Kine, disclosed.
She appealed for urgent support to meet the needs of the displaced.
“We continue to appeal to various ethnic groups to resolve the dispute amicably. NADMO is doing everything possible to alleviate the suffering of the affected people. We also appeal to corporate bodies for support,” she said.
