Dora Afenyo, a 20-year-old bread baker, has been remanded in prison custody by a Hohoe Circuit Court for possessing dried leaves suspected with Indian hemp.
Afenyo, who pleaded not guilty to the charge, would re-appear on May, 10, this year.
Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Benjamin Dadzie, told the court presided over by Mr Samuel Solomon that on April 4 Afenyo was arrested at the Golokwati Police barrier with 45 parcels of
compressed dried leaves suspected to be Indian hemp.
This was after the driver, who was conveying Afenyo and his boyfriend, Houston Ntsini, and the dried leaves to Accra, hinted the Police.
ASP Dadzie said the driver, who became suspicious upon unsatisfactory answer to a question posed regarding the content of three maxi-ecolas and a ladies bag, hinted the Police, who conducted a
search.
The prosecution said during the search, Ntsini, 23, bolted while Afenyo was arrested, adding that Ntsini was being sought for by the
Police.
Afenyo, in her caution statement to Police, denied knowledge of the content of the bags and said she was only accompanying her boyfriend to Accra when she was arrested.
Meanwhile, Afenyo’s assertion contradicted her earlier position on the case when she told Ghana News Agency that her ‘love’ for Ntsini made it impossible for her to report him to law enforcement agencies.
