The Catholic Metropolitan Archbishop of Kumasi, Most Reverend Thomas Kwaku Mensah, has reminded those in leadership positions to put the general good of society ahead of individual comfort and convenience.
He said they should let the welfare and development of the people become their topmost priority.
This is the way to go, he added, to win and sustain the confidence of the people they are leading.
Most Rev Mensah, who was on a pastoral visit to the Pankrono Parish, was saying a thanksgiving mass at the Pankrono Saint Joseph’s Catholic Church.
Dr Anthony Akoto Osei, Member of Parliament (MP) for the Tafo/Pankrono, the executive and members of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the constituency joined in the service to give praise to God for the party’s recent successful parliamentary primaries.
The Catholic Archbishop chastised leaders, whose only motivation was to satisfy inordinate self-serving agenda.
He blamed the growing indiscipline and crime in the society on the failure of those placed in positions of trust to set good examples.
He also underlined the need for parents to do everything to ensure that they spent quality time with their kids and closely monitored what they watched both on the internet and television.
This was necessary to protect them from reprehensible foreign cultural influences, he said.
He encouraged all Ghanaians to accept to live in peace and genuine reconciliation by avoiding acts that tended to create suspicion, tension and disunity.
Dr Akoto Osei was elected unopposed by the NPP delegates to contest the 2012 parliamentary polls.
