The Ministry for the Interior has announced a review of the curfew hours for both the Sawla-Tuna-Kalba and Bole Townships and their surrounding communities in the Savannah Region, following security advice from the respective Regional Security Councils (REGSEC).
Effective Tuesday, September 9, 2025, the new curfew hours will be from 8:00 p.m. to 5:00 a.m. daily.
The decision, signed and issued by the Minister for the Interior, Muntaka Mohammed-Mubarak, was made through an Executive Instrument aimed at maintaining law and order in the wake of recent tensions in the affected areas.
The government is urging chiefs, opinion leaders, the youth, and residents to remain calm and avoid violence, encouraging them to resort to peaceful means to resolve ongoing tensions.
In addition to the curfew, the Ministry has imposed the following restrictions for both Sawla-Tuna-Kalba and Bole townships:
* A total ban on the carrying of firearms, ammunition, or any offensive weapons. Anyone found violating this directive will be arrested and prosecuted.
* No two or more persons are allowed to ride on motorbikes at any time during the day.
* Wearing of war regalia is strictly prohibited throughout the day.
These measures are part of the government’s broader effort to restore calm and ensure public safety in the Savannah Region.
Residents are advised to comply with the new directives to help maintain peace and prevent further unrest.
Meanwhile, the number of displaced from the Sawla-Tuna-Kalba District of the Savannah into the Bono Region has increased from the initial 880 to 2,317 according to the National Disaster Management Organisation in the region.
The displaced persons are currently in four Municipal and District Assemblies, including Wenchi, Tain,Dormaa East, and Jaman North.
