Mr James Gunu, Volta Regional Minister has commended the Ghana Navy’s strategic role in national security and regional development.
He praised its “unwavering commitment to safeguarding the nation’s maritime domain,” noting that its operations directly supported Ghana’s economic and security interests.
The Minister said this at the induction ceremony of Commodore James Adongo Agambire as the new Flag Officer Commanding at the Naval Training Command (NAVTRAC), Nutekpor in South Tongu.
He underscored the Navy’s role in the success of government’s Volta Economic Corridor initiative, describing the project as a transformative plan expected to boost trade, tourism, logistics and investment across the region.
“In this vision, the Ghana Navy has an essential role to play. Your vigilance safeguards not only national security but also the economic arteries that will drive this corridor.”
Mr Gunu highlighted NAVTRAC’s contributions to training and readiness, which he said remained essential to national defence.
He congratulated Commodore Agambire on his appointment and expressed confidence in his leadership to strengthen training standards and operational effectiveness at NAVTRAC.
Mr Gunu assured that the Volta Regional Coordinating Council would continue to collaborate with NAVTRAC in maintaining peace, promoting stability, and supporting development initiatives in the region.
The ceremony attracted dignitaries including Mr Maxwell Lukutor, Member of Parliament for South Tongu, Ms Victoria Dzeklo, District Chief Executive of South Tongu, senior military officers and traditional leaders.
