The Assembly Member for Alata-Akobirem Electoral Area of Apam, Miss Grace Okoe-Santana, has called on members of youth clubs to be development oriented.
"They must win the confidence of elders about their capability of becoming reliable future leaders through their development initiatives", Miss Okoe-Santana said at the inauguration of the Vision Youth Club at Apam.
"Clubs must also serve as the platform for their development academically, socially, financially and physically. Any club which is formed purposely for enjoyment is not worth joining."
Miss Okoe-Santana cautioned the youth against allowing themselves to be used to cause violence during the December election.
She told the youth that sustenance of peace the nation was enjoying depended upon how they would conduct themselves before, during and after the elections.
"Don't destroy your future through politics", she pleaded.
Mr. Appah Arthur, a teacher, advised members to be forward looking and to be visionaries in planning for their future. "By so doing you can go to places."
Mr. Hubert Tawiah Baddo, president of the club, said they saw their membership as a challenge to continue with what their parents had done for the town.
He expressed their determination to use the club to rekindle the communal spirit that had become dormant in the town and appealed for support from the district assembly, donor agencies and individuals.
