Reverend R. K. Asamoah-Prah, Atonsu District Minister last Sunday observed that spiritual revival has been a bane on the growth of Presbyterian Church of Ghana (PCG).
He said the leadership of the church in the congregations, districts and national level were not spiritually inclined and had made it difficult for the church established about 180 years ago to grow and increase in membership as compared to some churches established less than 50 years in the country.
"Difficulty in spiritual revival among the leadership and members is a major problem facing PCG, "he stressed.
Rev. Asamoah-Prah was delivering the sermon at the induction of a seven-member Session for Esereso Lake Road Congregation of the Church in Kumasi.
Mrs Dora Sarpong is the Senior Presbyter, Mr Samuel Yaw Owusu, Session Clerk, Madam Alice Ankomah, Director of Finance, with Mr Sampson Akwasi Acheampong, Mr Sampson Kwadwo Owusu, Mr Nicholas Nartey and Mrs Esther Asare Bediako as members.
He called on all Presbyters of the church to set the agenda for spiritual revival in the church and pointed out that spiritual revival was a blessing from God, adding" there is much blessing being elected as a Presbyter in the Lord's Vineyard when you perform creditably as a good leader of the church."
Rev. Asamoah-Prah advised Presbyters not to seek for their own welfare but the concern of the church and not support any revolt or faction within the congregation or the church but endeavour to ensure peace prevailed within the congregation and the church at all times.
"Being elected a Presbyter you work for the entire church not only your congregation, therefore you should serve the Lord and the Church in humility with dignity and servitude," he added.
Rev. Asamoah-Prah said the mark of a good Presbyter or leader was not to control members in the congregation but intercede on their behalf for upliftment and growth.
He asked members of the congregation to offer their due respect to them to discharge their work to the Glory of God.
Mr Enoch Yaw Opoku, Catechist in-charge expressed appreciation to the congregation for their co-operation and understanding since the congregation was elevated about four years ago and urged them to live up to their responsibilities as true Christians to have God's blessings.
