MTN Ghana officially launched its annual 21 Days of Y'ello campaign, a corporate social responsibility initiative that brings together employees, partners, and communities to make a positive impact. Speaking at the launch, Mr. Steven Blewett, CEO of MTN Ghana, expressed his gratitude to the team and partners for their renewed commitment to the campaign. Mr. Blewett noted that the campaign, which aimed to bridge the digital divide and empower underserved communities, was a testament to MTN Ghana's commitment to transforming lives.
"Over the years, Y'ello Care has touched numerous lives, including that of the girls at Aburi Girls' Senior High School, and has implemented various initiatives to promote digital inclusion, education, and economic empowerment. This year's campaign, themed 'Connecting at the Root,' promised to be even more impactful, with MTN Ghana employees and partners rolling up their sleeves to teach digital skills, support small businesses, and introduce farmers to mobile solutions," he noted.
In an interview, the CEO elaborated on the essence of MTN Yellow Care, saying, "Yellow Care is about volunteerism. It's the entire MTN across Africa, and every MTN country participates. In Ghana, all our staff volunteered, and each year, we had a theme. This year, it was about 'getting at the roots' - digital inclusion at the roots." He noted that staff of MTN Ghana went out to all regions to volunteer their time and effort to help people and uplift the people of Ghana through various programs. "It's really about bringing digital skills and giving people the tools to grow their businesses," he emphasized.
Adwoa Afriyie Wiafe, the Chief Corporate Services and Sustainability Officer at MTN Ghana, emphasized the significance of Yellow Care, saying it was focused on sustainability and the company's contribution to society. This year's theme, "Connecting at the Root: Connecting Communities through the Use of Digital Tools," she noted, aimed to connect people and communities through digital skills training and other activities. "The program included hands-on training at ICT centers and a digital truck that moved from community to community, providing training in various areas of industry," she said.
Ms. Wiafe urged all staff to participate, aiming for over 90% participation, up from 88.5% the previous year. She thanked partners and stakeholders for their support, highlighting the importance of collaboration in driving sustainability initiatives.
Representing the Minister of State in Charge of Climate Change and Sustainability, Honorable Issifu Seidu, the Technical Director to the Minister, Mr. Cedric Dzelu, expressed his excitement about MTN's commitment to sustainability.
