Mr Francis Obiri, an Accra Circuit Court judge on Monday challenged the country's social workers to come out with a research why many of the youth are getting into robbery and other social vices.
"Ghana has reached a stage where our social workers must come out with a research why a lot of the youth are getting into robbery and other social vices".
Mr Obiri made the comment when he sentenced two ex-convicts Gideon Fianko, 23, a driver and Prince Owusu Ansah, 22, a labourer, to a total of 100 years for robbery.
The two are to serve 50 years jail term each for snatching a Toyota Corolla taxi valued at GH₵18,000 from its driver at knife point at Adenta Rowi.
The two were charged with conspiracy to commit crime and robbery but they pleaded guilty to robbery and were convicted on that charged.
The prosecution has however dropped the charged on conspiracy against them.
The two ex-convicts were released from prison on January 25, 2013 after serving about six months for stealing related offences.
Mr Francis Obiri said it was not just enough for the courts to sentence people to jail but collectively as country, we must find measures to address the social problems, which influence the youth to engage in anti-social behaviours.
