The Oyoko Royal Family of Dumasi in the Western Region has expressed their unhappiness about a purported resettlement agreement between the Dumasi community and Golden Star Resources Limited.
They said it was an act of impunity, lawlessness and disrespect to the court.
A statement signed by Dr Francis Kofi Bih, the Spokesperson and Secretary for the Oyoko Royal Family, said there is an interlocutory injunction pending on the process of the resettlement of the Dumasi community at the Tarkwa High Court.
He said on February 21, 2013, the mining company without regards to the court signed a supposed agreement with the Dumasi community without recourse to the families, owners and custodians of Dumasi stool lands.
He said although the mining laws of Ghana give a legal backing to a mining company to resettle communities within its mining concession, this must be done in clear consultation and agreement on the terms and conditions of such resettlement with the affected community.
The Secretary stated that the Golden Star Resources having failed to do proper and thorough stakeholders' consultation they have bent on using impunity and act of lawlessness to achieve their premeditated agenda.
He said the signing of such agreement must be done openly in a peaceful atmosphere devoid of any rancour, but what happened on "February 21, 2013 at Dumasi was "chaotic, disgraceful, and an act of impunity".
Dr Kofi Bih said a large section of the Dumasi community protested against the signing of a final agreement because they have not been briefed about the content on the resettlement agreement which vindicates the stance of the Oyoko Royal family.
The family expressed disappointment in the Omanhene of Essikado, Nana Kobina Nketia for partaking in the signing ceremony after he has been informed of the interlocutory injunction on the resettlement process.
"We are law-abiding and we would allow the law to take its course and would continue to use all available legitimate means to defend our heritage," Dr Kofi Bih said.
