Teachers in the Adansi North District who are punctual and do not miss classes are to be rewarded, Mr George Adjei-Henne, the District Education Director, has said.
He said attendance and punctuality to school would be incorporated into the district best teacher award scheme, starting from next year.
He was speaking at a ceremony to honour hard working and dedicated teachers in the district at Fomena.
In all, 72 teachers and workers in the basic, second-cycle and teacher training colleges were presented with prizes including fridges,
television sets and certificates.
Mr Adjei-Henne said teachers' motivation was crucial to the improvement of education, adding that the lack of this had been a major contributory factor to poor academic performance by schools.
He expressed satisfaction with the performance of schools in the district, saying, they are doing well in academic, sporting, debate and quiz competitions.
Saponso-Mem, Nyankomase and Aboabo Junior High schools received national awards for placing among the first 40 schools in the country that
excelled in the 2008 Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE).
