The Central Regional Minister, Mrs Ama Benyiwa-Doe, has appealed to religious leaders to sensitize their congregation to fully participate in the impending National Population Census.
The Minister said the Census would enable the government to know the total population of the country for effective planning and developmental purposes.
Mrs Benyiwa-Doe made the appeal at 22nd Anniversary Service of the Central Presbytery of the Presbyterian Church of Ghana, on Sunday.
It was under the theme: "Let us Rise and Build" and was attended by delegates from the eight districts of the Church in the Central Region.
Mrs Benyiwa-Doe urged Ghanaians to sustain the prevailing peaceful atmosphere because no country could development without peace and tranquillity.
She thanked the churches for their prayers and advice and said it was these that had brought the country this far.
The Minister, on behalf of the government, expressed gratitude to the Presbyterian Church for its immense contribution towards nation building, especially, in the areas of education and health.
Mrs Benyiwa-Doe, therefore, stressed the need for other churches to emulate the Presbyterian Church.
She expressed concern about the involvement of the youth in internet fraud which, she said, was not the best for the country and called on Ghanaians to join in the crusade against it.
The Regional Minister urged the leaders to educate their congregation to register with the National Health Insurance Scheme to enable them to access affordable medical care.
The Chairperson for the Central Presbytery, the Reverend Newton Asare-Akoto, in a sermon, urged Ghanaians to allow the Holy Spirit to take control over their lives so as to withstand calamity and tribulations.
Rev. Asare-Akoto said, "Christ came to die to save mankind and it is up to us to take him as our personal saviour to enable us attain salvation."
