A Tarkwa Circuit Court has remanded Nana Joseph Kwame Twum, 50, an agent of the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) into prison custody for stealing 237,144.300 Ghana cedis.
He pleaded guilty and will appear before the court presided over by Mr. Samuel Obeng-Diawuo on April 28 for sentencing.
Presenting the facts, Detective Chief Inspector Oscar Amponsah said the complainant, George Amoah, was the manager of the ECG at Bogoso while the accused was an agent of the ECG for the Wassa Akropong, Oppon Valley and its environs.
He said in March 2008, the accountant of ECG, John King Arthur, while auditing the books of the agent, detected that monies collected by the accused and deposited at the bank, do not tally with the cash books of the agent.
An audit revealed that an amount of 237,144,300 was missing and the accused pleaded with the company to be granted time to re-pay but has failed on his pledge.
