Three persons suspected to have embezzled 170,000 Ghana cedis belonging to eight cocoa farmers, appeared before a circuit court in Tarkwa.
Antwi Bosiako, 36, Manager on the run, Felix Tandoh, 35, Accountant, and Mercy Mbreyeh, Cashier, all of the Universal Cooperative Savings and Susu Company Limited, pleaded not guilty and will reappear before the court on April 28.
Police Chief Inspector Emmanuel Paddy told the court presided over by Mr. Samuel Obeng-Diawuo that the eight cocoa farmers saved a total of 170,000 Ghana cedis with the Company in March 2008.
The Prosecution said that the Company failed to pay the money to the farmers in April 2009.
Chief Insp. Paddy said the Accountant and Cashie had earlier told the customers of the company that 117,000 of the amount had been deposited at the Agricultural Development Bank (ADB) by the Manager to safeguard the company against any financial difficulties.
He said investigations at the ADB revealed that the amount was deposited at the bank but had been withdrawn.
