The management of Barclays Bank Ghana Limited, has donated a cheque of GH¢64,200 to StreetInvest, a non-governmental organisation (NGO), to enable it to improve the living standards of street workers in Kumasi.
A statement signed by Shola Safo-Duodu, Head of Corporate Affairs of Barclays Bank Ghana and copied to GNA in Accra on Wednesday, said Mr
Benjamin Dabrah, Managing Director of the Bank, presented the cheque to Mr Duncan Ross, Director and Founding Member of the NGO, in Accra.
Mr. Dabrah that said the assistance was in line with the bank's objective of working with government to tackle the issue of streetism and
its related problems.
"Our strategy is to grow our businesses to enable us to invest in youth development activities to improve upon the lives of the people of Ghana," he added.
Mr Ross, receiving the cheque, thanked the Bank for the gesture and pledged to use the funds for the intended purpose.
The statement said StreetInvest would use the funds to train local organisations that supported street workers.
It called for assistance, advice and guidance for young street workers to enable them leave the street.
The statement said the trained trainers would be expected to continue their work after their training and tasked them to form a network of support across Ghana for street workers.
StreetInvest was established in 2008 to cater for street workers.
