Physically challenged in Krachi-West District would benefit from a two-percent automatic quota system in all employment and other social initiatives by government.
For a start, all physically challenged persons would gain automatic appointments under the National Youth Employment Programme.
Mr. Moses Kwame Ponye, Krachi-West Chief Executive (DCE), on Tuesday announced these at the inauguration of a seven-member committee of Krachi-West Branch of the Association of Physically Challenged Persons.
He said physically challenged persons under the Youth in Agriculture Programme would have their fields ploughed free of charge and receive seedlings and fertilizers.
Mr. Ponye said the Assembly would set aside two per cent of its share of the District Assembly Common Fund for the physically challenged as directed by the Ministry of Local Government.
He asked the physical challenged to be assertive and take advantage of government interventions to develop their talents.
Mr. Ponye said some physically challenged students in the district had been offered scholarships at the Senior High School level while a well furnished office had been handed over to them, as part of the district's contribution to the wellbeing of the physically challenged.
Mr Ofori Yaw Debrah, National President, Association of the Physically Challenged, asked members to unite towards their development.
He commended Mr Ponye for his commitment to the development of the physically challenged and called on other DCEs to emulate him.
