Christopher Degbor, a teacher, who doubles as a "susu" collector, was on Monday sentenced to two years imprisonment by the Asamankese Circuit Court for stealing GHC 7,894.60 belonging to his employers, a "Susu" Company.
Degbor who pleaded guilty was also ordered to refund the amount stolen to Unifinancial Services, a "susu" company upon completion of the sentence.
Police Detective Chief Inspector X. E. Okorey, prosecuting, told the court that Degbor a teacher, at Pokuase, was employed by the company at Suhum as a "susu" collector, between February and June 01 2000.
His duties involved looking for customers, registering them, and collecting daily "susu" from them on behalf of the company.
In the course of business, the company detected that the convict had made use of part of the money collected from customers, amounting to GHC 7,894.60.
When the management of the company confronted him, he admitted the offence and promised to refund the money but failed to live up to his promise, and rather went into hiding.
The Managing Director of the company reported the matter to the police and on March 30, this year, the complainant had information that Degbor was teaching at Pokuase near Accra.
He therefore informed the police and Degbor was arrested.
