The Nsawam Magistrate Court on Tuesday granted bail to three accused persons in the sum of GH3,000 each with two sureties to be justified for defrauding by false pretences.
They all pleaded not guilty and would reappear before the court on June 25, 2010.
The accused persons are Kwabena Opoku Fynn, a businessman, Alex Agyare, Accounts Officer of the Ghana Cocoa Board (COCOBOD) in Accra, and Kwasi Asiamah, herbalist.
Prosecuting, Police Inspector Alex Cosmos, told the court presided over by Justice Yaw Twumasi Ankrah that the complainant, Mr Kwabena Agyei, dealer in Agro-Chemicals at Kumasi
came into contact with Fynn, first accused, in November 2009, who promised that he could help him get some quantity of chemicals to buy.
He said Fynn, who did not deal in Agro-Chemicals conspired with Agyare, who worked with COCOBOD, to issue an Invoice from the COCOBOD covering some chemicals which were
purported to be at the Nsawam branch.
The Prosecutor said Fynn then collected an amount of GH27,000 from Mr Agyei as payment for the 2000 bags of fertilizer (Asasewura).
He said Fynn then asked the complainant to arrange for a truck to convey the goods from Nsawam.
The Prosecutor said Fynn then sought the assistance of some policemen from Nsawam, gave them an amount of GH2,000 and asked them to arrest him together with the complainant when they got to Nsawam to collect the chemicals.
He said the policemen suspected a dubious deal and arrested Fynn and Mr Agyei.
Inspector Cosmos said in the course of the investigation, Fynn mentioned Agyare and Asiamah as his accomplices and they were also arrested and charged.
He said investigations revealed that there were no Agro-Chemical at all to be sold to the complainant.
