Razak Abu-bakar, a night watchman and Yaw Danso, a farmer all resident at Kade appeared before the Kade District Magistrate Court on Tuesday charged with possessing Indian hemp.
Their pleas were not taken and were remanded in prison custody until July 16.
Police Inspector Francis Cobbina, prosecuting, told the court that the
complainants were policemen from the Kade District Police Command.
He said at about 1330 hours on June 29, the police had a tip-off and embarked on a swoop on criminals, principally wee smokers around the
premises of the Kade Government Hospital.
During the exercise, the two accused persons and others now at large were seen smoking wee and on sighting the policemen abandoned three wrappers of dried leaves and some sticks of cigarettes and lighter and took to their heels.
They were given a hot chase and two of the accused persons were arrested.
The prosecutor said the dried leaves suspected to be Indian hemp were forwarded to the forensic laboratory in Accra for examination.
