Ms Agatha Osei, Nkoranza South District Girls Education Officer, has appealed to parents to closely monitor the movements of their children during vacation.
She asked them to especially check their girls against moving with peers with questionable characters so they would not indulge in social
vices.
Sharing experiences with the Ghana News Agency (GNA) about the movements of the youth on occasions including Christmas and Easter, Ms Osei
expressed regret about how unscrupulous men lured young girls to engage in sex with them in hotels and other outlets.
Such negative practices and attitudes of these men are contributory factors to teenage pregnancies and school drop outs, she added.
Ms Osei called on parents to monitor the movements of the girls to ensure they did not fall prey to such unscrupulous men.
She called on teenagers to report the negative actions of men who would try to rape them so that they could be arrested and punished accordingly.
Ms Osei advised girls to take their education seriously and to challenge their colleague boys in all fields to attain high levels of education and acquire gainful employment after school.
She advised parents to share ideas with their children so they would feel happy to stay at home and not follow bad peer groups.
Ms Osei asked religious leaders to educate their congregations about the importance of girls' education.
